Woodland Cemetery is a National and State Historic Landmark, considered to be among the loveliest rural cemeteries as well as a unique cultural resource for the residents of Dayton in addition to the visitors of the area. With close to 200 acres to roam, over 3000 trees to enjoy and a multitude of historic figures to discover. Learning about the history of Dayton, Ohio is truly a discovery of American history and ingenuity.

Self-guided Tours

Sponsored through a grant from Four Seasons Garden Club, a compact-disc tour for driving. Borrow the CD from the office between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and enjoy a tour of Woodland Cemetery & Arboretum at your own pace.

Private Group Tours

Private tours can be scheduled for groups of 2 to groups of 40. These tours can be to your group’s interest and time. Contact the administration office to schedule yours.

Woodland Bus Tours

Woodland has a 10 passenger bus available for tours throughout the cemetery.

Woodland and the Humane Society of Greater Dayton would like to invite you to one of our most attended events. The walk will be guided by Woodland Tour Guides and is for all sociable dogs and their owners. The walk is 1.1 miles long and includes the history of the famous and infamous people who are buried at Woodland. The event is free. We ask that you please clean up after your dogs. Registration for the event begins at 8:30AM or you may register in advance at the cemetery office at 118 Woodland Avenue or by phone at 937-228-3221.

The Humane Society will have dogs up for adoption, so take one for a walk and make a new friend.

Although Woodland is known for its Oaks, we will discover and discuss some of the most unique and common trees for the area. Take a brisk walk and get connected to the Arboretum at Woodland Cemetery. With our guide Kay Linden and the help of Mark Webber Landscaping, we have put together an interesting tour of some of Woodlands many trees. Reservations Required.

Enjoy a beautiful stroll through one of the most historical Garden Cemeteries in the US and meet some of the famous and infamous people that have made Woodland Cemetery their final resting place. We will have volunteers portraying some of the most interesting people here at Woodland Cemetery. Come, look and listen as each volunteer dressed in character, tells you a little about themselves. From John Van Cleve who established the cemetery to The Wright Brothers who discovered flight and of course Erma Bombeck one of the most admired humorist writers of our day. We look foreword to seeing you there.

Woodland is the city’s best place to watch birds. The lush greenery and many secluded spots make it an ideal location for birds to nest and lay their eggs. It is home to both native species and other birds that pass through during their migration. Join us for 2 hours of bird watching including area species such as the Carolina Wren, Black & White Warblers, Hawks, Cardinals and many more. Our nature guide Amanda Lawson will guide and discuss the many species of birds found at Woodland. A pair of binoculars and a cameras are all you need. Reservations are required.

Let your eyes explore the beauty as you learn about Woodland’s stained glass windows, Mosaic tiles and magnificent European marble located in the Woodland mausoleum. Reservations Required.
