SUMMARY:Woodland Arboretum Spring Tree I.D. Tour
DESCRIPTION:Can you tell the difference between a maple tree and an oak tree when there are no leaves on the trees?   Believe it or not\, it’s not that difficult if you know where to look and the many clues…bark\, shape\, buds\, and twig structure. \nJoin Maribeth Kambitsch to learn how to identify some of Ohio’s native trees in the spring including oak\, maple\, locust\, beach\, and ash.  As days are getting longer and temperatures warmer\, branches and buds are changing color and size\, and in anticipation of spring\, it will be exciting to check them out.  We will also look at the fascinating adaptations of trees and how they provide important habitat for a variety of other wildlife. \nThis program is for folks of all ages so bring the family. And bring binoculars if you have them; we may spot some critters that have just awakened from hibernation or returned from their winter homes. \nMeet at the Eichelberger Plaza at the main gates of the cemetery. Parking is available both inside and outside the gates. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle if needed. Tours will launch rain or shine\, except in the event of thunder or lightning. \nAll tours require a reservation and there is a suggested $5 donation. SUMMARY:Annual Faith and Friends Radio Broadcast at Woodland
DESCRIPTION:Listen to Bill and Melody broadcast live from Woodland Cemetery from 3 to 6 pm. \nPer Woodland company policy\, due to the corona-virus\, this tour has been canceled.  We hope to offer a limited number of tours in August and September. Thank you for your patience and understanding. \nAfterwards\, join them for a special National Aviation Day tour. \nThe tour will begin at the grave site of the Wright Brothers and travel through the cemetery sharing stories of the men and women who helped Dayton grow the air services during WWI to today’s Air Force. \nSome of the stories will include how Wright-Patterson Air Force Base got its name and how Requarth Lumber helped the Wright’s build their planes. There will be a couple of light-hearted stories from Horace Wright whose Uncle Orv teased him and the other children. \nThe tour will also feature prominent citizens Col. Edward A. Deeds and Gov. James M. Cox and how they figured in Dayton’s aviation history as well as the Huffman family who many know as manufacturers of the Huffy brand bicycle. Also featured will be veterans of the Army Air Corp and Air Force and how they made a difference in the world of aviation. \nJoin us on August 19th at 6:30 pm for this free tour. Park near the Wright Brothers monument and meet us at the family grave site. \nWikipedia states that the holiday was established in 1939 by Franklin D. Roosevelt\, who issued a presidential proclamation which designated the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday to be National Aviation Day. \nOrville Wright\, born in 1871\, was still alive when the proclamation was first issued\, and would live another nine years. The proclamation was codified (USC 36:I:A:1:118)\, and it allows the sitting President to proclaim August 19 as National Aviation Day each year\, if desired. Their proclamation may direct all federal buildings and installations to fly the US flag on that day\, and may encourage citizens to observe the day with activities that promote interest in aviation. \nIn the event of inclement weather\, a presentation of the walk will be given in the Mausoleum. Please note that this walk may be deemed strenuous by some and you will go off road into grassy and uneven ground. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle if necessary. \nPlease RSVP to 937-233-2484 or info@faithandfriendsradio.com \nFree Chick Fil A coupon for everyone who takes the tour! \nDon’t forget to listen to the live broadcast from Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum on the same day from 3 to 6 p.m. in the afternoon with Bill and Melody.
